Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
